Rod Blackhurst is an award-winning director with a portfolio of celebrated documentaries, feature films, and commercials. He is best known as the Emmy and Critics Choice nominated director of the Netflix Original Documentary “Amanda Knox.” His most recent projects include the narrative feature film “Blood for Dust” starring Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”) and Disney’s “Welcome to Earth” series, Executive Produced by Darren Aronofsky and hosted by Will Smith.
Rod is also prolific in the commercial space. His Delta commercial “Give Life” was recognized with an AdWeek Ark Award and his Uber Freight spot “Take Me Home” was shortlisted for a Cannes Lion. He has directed campaigns for clients such as AirBnB, Hilton, and Ram Trucks.
No matter the subject matter, Rod finds the emotional core of a story and builds outwards from that initial spark, crafting stories with heart and pathos. He is adept at working with non-actors and actors alike – as shown in his work for Panadol, where he captured a montage of everyday folks around the globe, weaving humble but powerful images into a moving story of resilience and strength. With a wide-ranging talent enabling him to cross over many genres, Rod’s work is always rooted in human connection and belonging.
