Matt Boyd was born in Virginia but raised in Augsburg, Germany. He didn’t grow up on film—he grew up on skateboards and bikes. Skate culture and vids influenced his aesthetics, but so did the photography of Robert Frank, Eggleston, and Stephen Shore, as well as the Euro-Cinema masters from the 60s and 70s like Goddard, Antonioni, and Tarkovsky.
So when Matt grew up, instead of getting a skate sponsor, he worked as a Cinematographer, Editor, and later, Director. He’s helmed critically acclaimed docs, concert films and portrait profiles with today’s leading artists, athletes, agencies and brands. Branded clients include APPLE, IFC, BOSE, VERIZON, SPIN, VICE, GOOGLE, KIA, SPOTIFY, VEVO, SPRITE and HEINEKEN. His broad résumé of music-films includes projects with artists such as KENDRICK LAMAR, RZA, MOBY, CHANCE THE RAPPER, BON IVER, 50 CENT, THE BLACK KEYS, EMINEM, THE FLAMING LIPS, and DOLLY PARTON
